Experience, Selectivity and a Practical Point of View

Andrea Kessler founded ProfitMax to help organizations identify and evaluate carefully selected opportunities that can produce measurable financial and operational value – without pressure to pursue a solution that does not make sense.

Her background spans more than three decades in healthcare, managed care, employee benefits and business development. That experience shapes the way ProfitMax approaches opportunities: understand the business issue first, determine whether there is a meaningful fit, and then bring the appropriate specialists into the conversation.

Where This Approach Began

In the early 1990s, while responsible for managed care for a federal health plan, Andrea introduced a claims-review service for out-of-network hospital claims. Although those claims were a small part of the plan’s overall hospital utilization, the program saved millions of dollars annually and reduced members’ out-of-pocket costs.

The vendor earned a percentage of the savings it generated, aligning its compensation directly with measurable results. That experience shaped an approach Andrea has carried throughout her career: when possible, the economics should align the interests of the client and the solution provider. It still influences how she evaluates opportunities through ProfitMax today.

Why ProfitMax Is Selective

ProfitMax does not attempt to represent every possible business service. The focus is on a limited group of solutions with a clear value proposition, measurable outcomes and an approach that can complement what organizations already have in place.

That selectivity keeps the conversation centered on the organization’s objective – not on selling a product. If an opportunity appears worthwhile, Andrea brings in the applicable specialists. If it does not, there is no reason to force it.

How Andrea Works With Organizations

Andrea serves as the initial business resource, helping organizations identify whether an opportunity warrants further exploration and bringing the appropriate subject-matter experts into the conversation when it does. She remains involved as appropriate, helping facilitate the discussion while the specialists provide the technical, operational or financial expertise required to evaluate and implement the solution.

The goal is straightforward: make it easier for decision-makers to evaluate opportunities that may otherwise remain hidden or unexplored, while respecting the relationships and infrastructure already in place.

Economics and Existing Advisors

Many of the solutions ProfitMax works with are performance-based, with provider fees tied to savings or recoveries that are actually realized. Others are structured without additional out-of-pocket program cost. There is no cost to talk with ProfitMax or to explore whether an opportunity may be relevant. The economics of any specific solution are explained clearly before you decide whether to move forward.

ProfitMax also welcomes brokers, consultants, accountants, attorneys and other trusted advisors. These relationships are intended to be collaborative, not competitive. When appropriate, Andrea works alongside an organization’s existing advisors and brings the applicable solution specialists into the discussion, allowing the advisor to remain part of the client relationship.
